Stirred To Missions

“Seeing the Watoto Choir at our church in 2013 ‘stirred’ me to go on a missions trip to Uganda to see what God was doing through Watoto for the children there” Judy recalls. “We saw evidence of very happy and contented children in the Watoto villages of Suubi, Bbira and Gulu. The love of God through sponsors like us around the world makes such a huge difference in these children’s lives! ‘I was naked and you clothed me; I was hungry and you fed me; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was sick and you looked after me.’ With the support of donors like you and I, Watoto cares for all of these needs in the children under their care.

In 2015, our team was to help with the care of babies under two years old.  What a joy that was! The abandoned babies that were rescued from various difficult situations began to thrive under the loving care of Watoto nannies. There was lots of joy, cuddling and playing with these wee ones. I was also so grateful for the opportunity of visiting with my own sponsored child, Francis - the absolute highlight of my trip. Being in the presence of this “umbrella” of love was very humbling and empowering. It was a life changing and tearful experience for me which gave rise to a passion for advocating for the children of Watoto. I wasn’t sure if I would have the opportunity to go to Uganda again, but I would come to find another way to be involved.

Last year, I began to volunteer in the national Watoto Canada office which allowed me to be involved with the children of Watoto in a different way. I have helped with organizing a backpack filled with clothing and supplies for each of the children in the Watoto choir, mass mailing of children’s letters to their Canadian sponsors, sending welcome packages to new sponsors, and helping overall with the general office needs they have from week to week.

In the past few weeks, the Watoto choir has been performing in our area. This year, I was thrilled to be able to share their joyful and energetic concert of thanksgiving and praise with my young grandchildren! Perhaps one day they too can be part of Watoto, just like you can, by going on a missions trip, sponsoring a child or volunteering with their office. It will fill your heart with love and joy, and in turn, cause you to be ever so grateful for all that you have been given by God! Matthew 25:40 ‘As you have done it to the least of these my brothers, you have done it to me!’”
