RECOLLECTIONS OF JON LEE

3 March 2011

Jon Lee has been travelling with Watoto’s Restore Tour: Child Soldier No More as the team’s audio engineer. Like everyone else, the production has significantly impacted his life. Today, he shares with us his recollection of the production and the privilege of being part of the team.

When I first accepted the position to join the team as the audio engineer, I wasn’t sure of what to expect. But from the very first show, my life has been impacted in a way that I didn’t expect. It is still affecting me today.

When I left home for the tour, I was excited about many things including the new opportunities I had before me, but what I was most looking forward to was the travel. I have been able to travel to the parts of the world I had always dreamed of such as the UK, Australia and New Zealand. I have also had the privilege of mixing with people in many great churches and venues like Abundant Life Church and the various Hillsong Church campuses. These are all things that I had anticipated to be the highlights and most influential parts of the tour as I prepared. However, they turned out to be the least memorable about this tour.

What has really impacted me is the same thing that is changing the lives of thousands of people around the world; the real life message that the children share at every live event. It’s not only on the stage, but also from the opportunities that I have to work alongside them everyday.

The opportunity to mentor and train some of the children has meant more to me than travelling the world or mixing at a large church could ever come close to. Being able to be a part of this ministry has been a blessing and has reminded me that ministry isn’t about my personal gain or ambitions. It is solely about the Kingdom of God and whatever His ambitions are. Between the relationships and the daily reminder of why I do what I do, I couldn’t ask for any better memories or highlights from this trip than that. These children have truly changed and impacted my life.

As I glimpse ahead, I am excited for the next leg of this trip as we travel back to Uganda at the end of the month. I’m looking forward to the future there, to see first hand what Watoto is all about and where these stories come from that have so greatly impacted my life.
