There was so much egg-citement at the Watoto Bbira Children’s Village with children and their teachers immersed in various activities in celebration of the World Egg Day Conference on 14 October 2011.
With so much to do, no-one was left out; at least with eating eggs. “We had eggs during break time at school, they are so tasty,” one student commented.
The afternoon celebrations kicked off with an “egg song and dance” – composed and choreographed by the school music teacher and performed by the high school students. It was followed by an egg poem recited by primary one and two pupils, "… because it’s all I need to stand on my two legs,” they said. Then a presentation by Apollo Musinguzi from Hope Senior School who asserted that among the benefits of eggs, egg-shells can be used as decorative items.
The egg eating competition generated a lot of excitement from the children who by this time were up, waving and cheering for their favourite team.
Other activities included egg races, painting and cooking competitions.
“I’m really excited to be part of this event. I was thrilled to be able to participate in the egg cooking competition,” said Rhona, one of the high school students studying food and nutrition.
Novus International Inc was the proud sponsor of the event, donating over 50 trays of eggs to the children’s villages. “We want to promote egg consumption and improve nutrition among children and we are excited to partner with Watoto in this cause,” Peter Ssenkungu from Novus said.
