WE HEART TEXAS!

13 October 2010

It’s often been said that the ‘Local church is the hope of the world”. Lakewood United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas takes that mandate very seriously. So impacted and affected by the Saturday night  Restore Tour (9 October 2010) production, Sunday’s (10 October 2010) service was impromptutously  dedicated to an open platform of sharing testimonies of how people have survived loss and how both God and the church has been there the whole way through.

Family after family, story after story, they recounted experiences that touched the very core of who they are today. Grief, fatal accidents, drunk driving, miscarriages and the loss of a child were shared and all had similar key themes running through them of unrelenting hope amidst unbelievable loss. Forgiveness and God’s redemptive power also ran strong throughout all the testimonies as did the collective power of the Body of Christ to bring healing and light into the darkest of situations. The role of the church in rebuilding the lives of those who have gone through heartbreaking experiences was at once recognised and appreciated.

Wrapped up magnificently by Watoto Church Gulu Pastor Joe Ogwal, he brought the service to a close  saying; “People from all walks of life, regardless of their geographical location or social status go through turbulent times. The crucial role of the church is to bring hope and healing to hurting people and communities”.
