WATOTO STUDENTS EXCEL AT SPELLING

29 July 2011

The first season of the Bumble Word Spelling Bee (BWSB), courtesy of Bumble Word Bee Uganda Limited, was launched at Kitante Primary School on 21 July 2011.

A healthy crowd of participants and supporters from various primary schools across Kampala, attended the event. This included participants from Watoto's very own Hope Junior School.

Pupils were excited to be part of the educational experience. Special recognition was particularly paid to 8-year-old Treasure Nakato Kajubi of Watoto's Hope Junior School, a Primary two student. She caught the hearts of attendees to the event as she spelled out all the words given to her with great poise and exuberance. She was one of the youngest participants of the day and was garnered with the most outstanding performance award of the night.

“It’s the first competition of its kind in Uganda. And we believe that, through it, the children will gain a more comprehensive vocabulary; become better public speakers and writers; and get a chance to mingle with peers and learn from each other,” commented Able Mugisha, one of the organisers of the event.
