A jubilant crowd flocked to 30 Main Road, Sea Point for the groundbreaking opening of Watoto Church Cape Town this morning (1 May 2011).

Founder, Gary Skinner comments: “The expansion of God’s kingdom is something we are very excited about and will always actively pursue. It has long been a dream of ours to see the Watoto model replicated across our beloved continent. We strongly believe that the local church is the hope of the world, and so, true to form, the Watoto model will first be replicated with the launch of a life giving church.”
Existing members in Cape Town, global partners and a 60-strong contingent from Watoto Church Uganda stood mesmerised and in awe of the tangible presence of the Lord at the celebration service.

Watoto Church believes in being relevant to the community in which it resides by expediting love, justice and equity to a lost and dying world. This is done through ministry to the whole man - spirit, soul and body.
Among the first projects to be implemented on the ground in South Africa are Baby Watoto – established to rescue orphaned and destitute babies; Living Hope – a programme that restores dignity to vulnerable women; and Watoto360° – a discipleship training course, set to equip young people to change their world with the love of Jesus.
"I think it's phenomenal what God is doing in our city, especially during this time in history. And Watoto is a true God-send. Jesus is good," comments Nic Manshon, Cape Town resident.
Well wishes poured in from friends all over the world, including some of the global partners, who were in attendance.

Tracy Johnson from the US commented on Facebook, "So want to be there... Thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Watoto Church Cape Town, such a Blessing... Look at God!"
Tracy's comment echoes the statement of many in attendance as praise, worship, dance and, in true African style, ululation sent praises went up to the glory of God and the extension of His Kingdom. The occasion was marked with what can only be attributed to 'the kiss of God'.
