STUDENTS VISIT GAYAZA HIGH SCHOOL

10 March 2011

On 3rd March 2011, 30 Watoto Hope Senior School students visited Gayaza High School outside Kampala, one of oldest and best performing schools in Uganda.

The exchange programme is intended to improve, not only the academic performance of the students, but also their way of life as they get a chance to compare and learn new things from the schools they visit. Other schools in the initiative include Kings College Buddo, St. Lawrence Schools – Paris Palais Campus, Naalya Secondary School and Lowell Girls School among others.

“There are so many challenges we face as educationists. It is always good to interact with others for the purpose of fresh perspective, ideas and social activity,” says Mr. Daniel Kajubi, the Head Teacher at Hope Senior School, Watoto's Suubi Children's Village.

Students from both schools were very excited at the chance to interact and make new friends. The Watoto students on arrival were told to join the host students in their classrooms where they attended lessons and got to see how the other students run their school affairs.

The Watoto students joined in on a typical day with the Gayaza students. “The girls are very social, welcoming and hardworking. They have inspired me academically to work harder and always be proactive in studying ahead of lessons. They are also very smart in their uniforms. At Watoto, we also purpose to be smart, neat and tidy at all times,” says Daniel Kisakye, a Watoto student in Senior 5.

“We have established good relationships with Gayaza High School students and faculty. Doors of opportunity have, therefore, opened for us to exchange educational materials and learn from each other. It was a day well spent," concludes Mr. Kajubi.
