OWN A PRINT, TELL THE STORY

12 October 2010

Well-known humanitarian documentary photographer, Esther Havens has launched a collection of online prints, www.wallblank.com/watoto - inspired by the Watoto story.

Featuring images from her time spent with Watoto in Uganda, Esther takes the viewer on a photographic journey through ‘A Day in the Life of Watoto’ and Living Hope - a ministry out of Watoto with a focus on restoring dignity to vulnerable women. The photo exhibit debuted as part of a national conference in Austin, Texas earlier this month where thousands gathered to focus on the global orphan crisis and the church's role in addressing and responding to it.

Over 35 stunning images come together to form the basis of her collection. Each beautiful print comes with a unique story of the life changing work Watoto is doing everyday.

Take for example, "Doctor" Moses. Abandoned by his mother at a local hospital in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, he was severely malnourished when Watoto rescued him and brought him to Baby Watoto. Today, he lives with a new family in a Watoto Village and is a healthy, happy little boy. Maybe he’ll be a real doctor someday. But no matter what profession he chooses, he will always know of God’s abundant love for him.

Esther’s photographic style focuses on social-awareness campaigns with non-profits like Watoto right around the globe. She has an incredible talent of capturing stories that transcend a person's circumstance and reveal the strength of an individual regardless of the situation in which they find themselves.
