MOTHERS DAY AT WATOTO 2011

2 May 2011

As the world prepares to celebrate the international Mothers' Day this weekend, we talked to some children in Watoto about what they thought of the occasion and how they are planning to celebrate it.

“I love my mother so much because she gives me sweets and chocolate,” says 5-year old Sheila Karabo who lives in house No.151 at Bbira Children’s Village. Sheila’s mother, Evelyn Ngangeyo is proud of Sheila who is her youngest daughter among the eight children she looks after.

Evelyn has been a Watoto mother since 2007 when she felt God had called her to be one. “When I gave my life to Christ, I fasted and prayed to God to show me which church I should join and God showed me Watoto Church in a dream. God then placed a burden of motherhood on my heart for two years but I kept ignoring it until when my sister told me about Watoto and how I can contribute towards the ministry of raising orphaned and vulnerable children.

She explains that being a mother to these children is her heart’s desire and she feels at peace. “I love my children and I take them as my biological children. I thank God for each one of them and I pray that I can see them grow to become responsible people in community.”

The children at Watoto take Mothers’ Day celebrations seriously. And in preparation for this occasion, our children are baking ideas on how best to appreciate their ‘mommas’ (and sponsors), each family trying to out-do the other family in showering their moms with gratitude. A special Mothers’ Day video will be out soon for you to view how much the children value you. Watch out for more Mothers’ Day updates also coming up.
