Recently, Watoto was privileged to host the Joyce Meyer Ministries (JMM) Medical Team in a special outreach to Otwal village, Oyam district in northern Uganda where Watoto is in operation.
“Working with the Otwal community opened our eyes to see how much people are deprived of basic necessities,” comments Shirley Mahimaidass, one of Watoto's medical co-ordinators supporting the visiting team.

Otwal stands as an image of how much the war in northern Uganda has taken away from the people, demonstrating the urgent need for specialised care for women, children and men.
During the outreach, people flocked to the centre with much anticipation. Apart from some of the common medical treatment, many were blessed to be prayed for and have their long lasting wounds treated by a wound care nurse. The pregnant mothers were attended to by the midwife on the team, who made them feel wanted and special.

Many found relief in knowing their HIV status and having their loved ones checked for the same. And to be able to have a need (dental, spiritual, emotional and other medical concerns) attended to without being seen as a burden, was invaluable.
“The people of Otwal captured our hearts with a sweet welcoming spirit and the long list of their basic needs. We were blessed to help them,’ said a JMM team member.
