CONNEXION CAMP 2011 ROUND UP

11 January 2011

The Connexion Camp 2011 came to a close on 7th January and with it, wonderful testimonies of lives impacted and empowered. The 5-day event was jam-packed with fun and entertainment, but the main objective was to empower and inspire teenagers through a teaching from the life of Joseph in the Bible, delivered by former Youth Pastor, Humphrey Asiimwe. This was not an ordinary camp and it certainly did not yield an average response.

Richard Sekatawa, 16, from WAtoto's Bbira Children's Village couldn’t help but share his experience at camp. “I got to know God’s expectations of me. I also discovered God’s calling for my life which is to lead worship. I heard that calling and that’s why I went to be prayed for during the altar call,” he says.

As seen from the camp’s theme “Soaring as Eagles,” an analogy was taken from the life of the eagle from which various characteristics were pointed out as relevant to the lives of those attending. Characteristics included such as the eagle’s dedication, perseverance and patience to mention but a few.

Janet Mabet, another camper from Watoto's Bbira Children's Village had great expectations of fun, great food and the whole psyche of camp. But the teaching just blew her away. “I got to learn more about the eagle besides it just being the king of the birds. I now know that God wants us to be like the eagle and that it is not so easy to overcome difficult situations but through God, He will see you through,” she says.

She adds, “I am not the best at making friends, but through this camp I have been able to make new friends.”

One of the unforgettable highlights was the first ever mini boot camp. All the attendees were participative, united and vibrantly active.
