Watoto Uganda yesterday (Mon 15 March) welcomed back home Watoto Children’s Choir from its six-month tour of the USA with a special lunch at the head office in Kampala, Uganda. The lunch room was filled with the ear-to-ear smiles of the children, mothers and the adult members of the team, all overjoyed to see their loved ones. The choir left in September 2010 and arrived back in Uganda on Sunday March 13th 2011.
The team recalled some of the highlights of their tour, particularly citing the opportunity to recruit more than 500 new sponsors for Watoto children and other individuals during their Concerts of Hope. Paula Buzu, team leader couldn’t hold back her gratitude to both Watoto and the team that was under her charge. “Thank you for entrusting us with 22 children to watch over and the mandate to be ambassadors for the countless orphans and vulnerable women in Africa,” she said.
Spicing up the occasion was the award ceremony for the children who were recognised for their outstanding performances while on tour. These included special awards for neatness, good behaviour and many other values. 12-year-old Jovia Nakimuli, also voted as most consistent child, commented that her experience was splendid. “I enjoyed meeting new people every day and having my aunties and uncles watching over me,” she said.
